The Ashes Cricket Review
With the series levelled at 1-1 this was a very important game for both sides. This game started with early momentum for England. They used this momentum to smash Australia in an impressive win; beating Australia by 8 wickets. There were huge expectations of these Australian players and we’re reviewing whether or not they lived up to these expectations.
The Ashes 3rd test player reviews
David Warner 6/10: Of to a shaky start in the series with and continued his shaky start with making just 2 in the first innings. In the seconds innings he tried his best to make a comeback for his team and he scored freely until he was given out on 77.
Chris Rodgers 6/10: After making a solid start to the series he grabbed another half century to his name making 52 runs. Unfortunately, no one was there to make a partnership with him. In the second winnings he was given out for just 6 when Australia needed him the most.
Steven Smith 2/10: Labelled as the next Donald Bradman and a great second test he was under great expectation to carry the team to victory in the third test. He did not nearly live up to these expectations with just making a combine run total of 15.
Michael Clarke (c) 3/10: Hoping to lead Australia to victory and lead by example he choked under the pressure by making two single digit scores. This performance has asked the question should Michael Clarke retire from cricket after this series.
Adam Voges 3/10: Making his ashes series debut he was hoping to impress the selectors why he should be in the squad. After a nervous start to the series he was hoping to play a solid game. After making the second top score in the first innings with 16 he crashed out in the second innings with a golden duck.
Mitchell Marsh 2/10: Bought into the side with his versatility with the ball and bat he failed with both. Making a combined total of just 6 and not making a single wicket he played a very disappointing game.
Peter Nevill (wk) 5/10: Making his test cricket debut after replacing Brad Haddin he was hoping to prove the selectors right for introducing him into the squad. Looked nervous in the first innings and got 2 for his troubles he made a good comeback to make is maiden half century in test cricket scoring 59.
Mitchell Johnson 4/10: A green fast pitch was perfect for Mitchell Johnson’s pace. He bowled some good spell but only managed to pick up 4 wickets when he was expected to take a few. He chipped in late in the first innings with the bat making a few handy runs which gave Australia a slight chance.
Mitchell Starc 5/10: Australia’s most in form bowler he was hoping to make a few wickets. He ended up making only 3 which was a disappointment for him. What he lacked in bowling he made up for with his batting scoring himself a rare 50.
Josh Hazelwood: 4/10 Making his first ashes series was hoping to impress. He managed to grab himself 4 wickets but he was costly and leaked quite a few runs at a fast rate.
Nathan Lyon: 7/10 Was Australia’s best performing bowler for this game. He did his job by keeping England’s run rate down with his spin bowling. He also managed to grab himself 3 important wickets for the team.
